Massage in Pregnancy & Labour - Aberdeen

2 Days - with Jean McConville

 

Taught by a Registered Midwife, Consultant Anaethetist, Massage and Manipulative Therapists.  This course is designed to give qualified massage therapists the knowledge, confidence and awareness to work with pregnant and labouring clients.

 

Course content & what you will learn: the theory and clinical application of:

  • Anatomy and physiology in pregnancy
  • Advice and guidance on contraindications; Oils used during pregnancy.
  • Different positions for massaging pregnant clients and use of body cushions
  • Massage techniques to help relieve common ailments experienced in pregnancy
  • Mechanism of normal birth; an overview of pain relief in labour
  • Advice on labour massage to pregnant clients including clients with epidural analgesia

 

Following successful completion, you will be able to progress & go on to: 

  • Use a wider range of techniques to adapt and suit your clients
  • Offer safe and effective massage during labour 
  • Develop your Continual Professional Development (CPD) portfolio

 

Entry Requirements: A diploma in Massage including anatomy & physiology or equivalent.

 

Assessment: Successful completion of a multiple choice questionnaire and a demonstration of competence in pregnancy massage will be required prior to the issuing of your ‘Massage in Pregnancy & Labour’ certificate
